If I asked you how you feel right now, how would you answer? Would you say "I feel terrific!" Or would you say "I'm tired. There aren't enough hours in the day!" If your answer was like the second, then you need to do a quick health checkup.Think of your life as like a tree: Your relationship with God is the root of that tree. This relationship keeps you grounded no matter what happens to you. Your physical and emotional health is like the trunk; a healthy trunk is able to take full nourishment from the root and feed it to the branches. The branches are the roles you must fulfill, like spouse, parent, business owner or employee, and others. If you're always tired, then you're probably busy tending to the branches and not taking time to nurture your roots and trunk. Your solution lies in your answers to the following questions:Am I nurturing my connection with God? Am I eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and water? Am I exercising regularly? Am I getting adequate rest, sleep, and play?If you can't answer "yes" to all the questions, then you need to adjust your priorities. Otherwise, you'll be like a tree with a weak root and trunk system. It won't take much to uproot you! But if you nurture your roots and trunk, you'll flourish like Psalm 1:3 promises: You shall be like "a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever [you do] shall prosper."A Registered Nurse for many years, Kimberly Floyd battled obesity for much of her adult life.
